Pre-K and Kindergarten

Each Pre-K and Kindergarten class has a full-time teacher and assistant. Pre-K and Kindergarten classrooms are on the lower level of the school, providing a safe environment geared for our youngest students. Extended Day for Pre-K and Kindergarten children is housed in the Pre-K / Kindergarten classrooms.

Pre-K. Saint Agnes offers the perfect transition from home to school for children age 4 by September 30. Pre-K is a half-day (8 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.) developmental preschool program that focuses on social-emotional, physical, and cognitive development. Three Pre-K classrooms offer space for children to spread their wings.

Optional afternoon Pre-K hours are available until 3:00 p.m. for an additional fee. Class size is limited to 18 students per class.

The Pre-K program capitalizes on the children’s natural eagerness to learn through activities that prepare them for Kindergarten and beyond. Pre-K children are in the pre-operational stage of development: they are rapidly acquiring language and are eager learners; they are becoming less self-centered and gradually learning to see the viewpoint of others; they are very active and often noisy, yet need periods of quiet alternated with periods of activity.

Kindergarten. Children age 5 by September 30 enter a full-day program providing a safe, nurturing environment where the whole child is educated spiritually, intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically. Positive self-image is always fostered so that each child appreciates the person God created.

Kindergarten completes the transition from home to school while also preparing for the academic rigors of first grade. Faith formation develops each child’s love of God. The academic focus is on pre-reading, writing, math, and language. Daily free play encourages children to make choices, act responsibly, and work cooperatively. Kindergarten children grow in learning so they can work independently, follow directions, and increase attention span. Class size is limited to 25 students per class.
