Agnes Enrichment Programs 2004-05 Academic Year
After-school Foreign Language (grades
K-8): instruction in both Spanish and
French is taught by certified language instructors.
Both beginning and advanced classes are offered.
Chess Club (grades 2-8): Chess
Club is back! The club meets on Tuesdays and is
limited to 20 students per semester.
Junior Great Books Program (grades 2-8):
Students read and discuss short stories in small
groups to develop the essential skills of reading
carefully, thinking critically, listening intently,
and speaking and writing precisely.
Latin Instruction (grades 2-8):
The focus is on making Latin instruction fun and
on learning Latin to improve vocabulary and test-taking
skills, with some cultural themes.
Mad Science (grades 1-5): It's
back! This is an innovative approach to scientific
concepts through hands-on learning in a fun, creative
atmosphere.
Math Club (grades K-7): New this
year! The mathematics club aims to teach age appropriate
math concepts in a fun, interactive learning environment.
Music Instruction: private after-school
piano lessons on-site will be supplemented by
other certified music instructors who will teach
private cello and violin lessons, and well as
group guitar lessons.
Public Speaking Workshop (grades 4-8):
St. Agnes parent Karen Czarnecki, a regular panelist
on PBS' weekly TV show To The Contrary,
again will teach a workshop to develop valuable
speaking skills such as eye contact, pace, and
being comfortable in front of an audience. Guest
lecturers add to the fun!
'So This Is Opera' Artist in Residence
Program: Lyric soprano and music educator
Yvette Lewis, will work with individual grades
in an opera immersion program -- involving creative
writing, art, drama and research activities, and
a performance of a short opera.
Study Skills Course-Huntington Learning
Center (grades 5-8): Time management,
note taking, test taking, outlining and reading
comprehension skills will be taught at the school.
Theater/Drama Classes (grades 1-8):
The Educational Theater of Arlington provides
a drama class at St. Agnes divided into sections
by grade for Creative Play, Improv, and Shakespeare.
Weekly Enrichment Quiz: This
is a fun learning activity with short grade-appropriate
weekly quizzes adapted from on-line sources. The
quiz challenges students in a number of areas.
